Extensive Tour of Goias State

Dr. Luís Prochnow, Director, IPNI Brazil Program, helped organize a 6-day tour (February 17 to 22) to visit several locations within Goias State to give participants a better understanding of opportunities for specialty fertilizer products as well as the Brazilian fertilizer market as a whole The group had the opportunity to visit (1) EMBRAPA Rice and Beans, Goiânia; (2) EMBRAPA Agroenergy, Brasília; (3) University of Goias, College of Agronomy of Ipameri, Ipameri; (4) University of Rio Verde, College of Agronomy, Rio Verde; (5) COMIGO Cooperative, Rio Verde; and (6) University of Goias, College of Agronomy of Jatai, Jatai. Seminars by Dr. Prochnow were presented in nearly all locations. Dr. Prochnow concentrated his presentations on the mission of IPNI and how the institute can help agriculture in Brazil. The trip was very successful in establishing good contacts with researchers and extension people througout the state of Goias. IPNI Brazil may be asked to help in the future to oversee agronomic experimentation in the region.

Visit to Bunge Brazil

Dr. Prochnow met with representatives of Bunge on February 28 in São Paulo city in order to update the company's regional agronomic consultants on opportunities for collaboration with IPNI. Dr. Prochnow explained the relationship among IPNI and member companies and expressed ideas for implementation in Brazil. "We discussed the development of promotional programs, discussion groups, and new technical publications," explained Dr. Prochnow. The meeting was very productive and Dr. Prochnow was invited to participate in a national Bunge consultant meeting to be held in Mogi das Cruzes, Sao Paulo, on April 9-12.
