Dr. Luís Prochnow was invited to give a lecture on March 3 to 125 new students of agronomy and forestry sciences at the University of the State of São Paulo (UNESP/Botucatu). This is a once-a-year occasion, when the University welcomes its new students and invites someone well recognized from the scientific community to present a seminar. "It was indeed an enormous pleasure to come back to UNESP/Botucatu, attend this event, and serve as the keynote speaker," said Dr. Prochnow. During his seminar titled "The Future Has Arrived for Agriculture Related Professionals", Dr. Prochnow explained about the IPNI mission, worldwide and Brazilian agricultural perspectives, the broad spectrum of professional activities, and future prospects in agricultural and forestry sciences.
Dr. Prochnow also gave a seminar on the IPNI mission and its future activities in Brazil to the Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition Faculty at the Department of Soil Science (UNESP/Botucatu). "The debate that followed was productive and opened the possibility for future collaboration between our two institutions," Dr. Prochnow reported.

This specialized course is aimed to train agronomists and other agricultural professionals on how to adequately and economically manage soils with minimum harm to the environment. The interaction among professionals with experience in crop field operations is a large part of the strategy of this course. Dr. Prochnow was extremely satisfied with student participation and final results. IPNI Brazil intends in the future to help organize similar training courses in other parts of Brazil.
